J.S. Bach St. Matthew Passion BWV 244
6.30 pm (Part 1) 8.30 pm (Part 2) Resurgam Irish Baroque Orchestra Peter Davoren tenor (evangelist) Raitis Grigalis bass (Christus) Paul McGough bass also featuring the choirs of St. Canice’s Cathedral and Kilkenny College. Mark Duley director Bach's St Matthew Passion is the composer's most grandly-scaled work, and also one of his best loved. Resurgam presents the first Irish performances using period instruments, appropriately in Holy Week, and in its final 1742 version. The presentation will highlight the musically and theologically significant dialogue between the two groups of performers involved, and as in Bach's time there will be two sets of soloists drawn from each choir. |
